Lilliput Lane "Stay In Touch" (Budlake, Devon)
Stay In Touch, Budlake, Devon. Budlake, it seems, has rather a penchant for post offices having had no less than three different Post Office buildings over the years since the first one was set up in the nineteenth century. It was then moved to the property next door to make way for a forge, before finally settling in this delightful cob cottage which was a former lodge house to the Killerton Estate.
It served as a sub post office to Exeter head office, a telegraph office, as well as a busy village shop from 1901 until 1976, when it was closed. Now owned by the National Trust and known as Budlake Old Post Office, this delightful building is open to the public who can find out all about its fascinating history and the vital part it played over the years in allowing people to stay in touch.
